General Benchmark Opportunities
3 Month Historical Performance
S&P 500
From September 29, 2023 to December 29, 2023, the widely used S&P 500 stock market benchmark advanced from 4,288.05 to 4,769.83, or 11.23% return for the trailing 3 mos. plus 43 bps in dividends against the 4,288.05 start for a total return of 11.66%.
High Yield Index
The US High Yield Index Total Return Index advanced from 1,485.15 to 1,590.04, or a 7.06% return for the trailing 3 mos. which includes interest payments.
It is my opinion that there are two viable options for readers to choose from among the investment hemisphere which are stable and cost effective; the S&P 500 and the High Yield Index markets. Simply put, the S&P 500 has proven out over time to beat active management strategies and the High Yield Index market has shown to generate similar long duration returns to the S&P 500 with significantly less volatility given its high interest rate/investment feature.
